One if the most unexpected things about my Singagram Experience is the fact that do get a lot of bookings from overseas. I would say that about 20% of my performances are as a result of receiving an email enquiry or phone call from someone who wants me to surprise a loved one, special friend or family member because they are out of the country on business or live abroad. I have been hired from clients all over the world particularly in America and Australia.
When I received a phone call from a gentleman who was serving in the armed forces asking me to sing for his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day I was honoured to help. As he was unable to be there himself and not even phone he sent the next best thing to express his love… me! So it was that I sung for his girlfriend at home in her kitchen while she sat at the breakfast bar eating a bowl of soup! A family friend met me and led me through.
It is particularly touching when I am asked to convey this type of message. Sometimes it is a wedding that cannot be attended, a birthday party that will be missed or an anniversary that won’t be celebrated together. Yet, when it involves a young couple who are apart on Valentines Day because of overseas military obligations it is especially poignant. To be able to soften to the blow of enforced separation is very rewarding. My cupid’s arrow met its target in a very special way that day.
